Hey there, welcome to the podcast. I’m Doctor Nicholas Esser from six one four Chiropractic here in Hilliard, Ohio. Today I want to talk about something I deal with almost every day… and that’s all the myths and misconceptions about what chiropractors actually do.

You know, I can’t tell you how many times someone walks into my office and says they thought we just crack backs all day. Or they’re surprised we went to school for eight years. So let’s clear some things up.

First, here’s what chiropractic is really about. We’re experts in the musculoskeletal system… that’s your bones, joints, muscles, and how they all work together. Our main focus is on your spine and nervous system because they control so much of how your body functions. When your spine isn’t moving properly, it can affect everything from your posture to how you feel day to day.

Now, let’s talk about adjustments. Yes, we do adjust the spine, but it’s not about cracking or popping. That sound you hear? It’s just gas bubbles releasing from the joint… kind of like when you crack your knuckles. What we’re really doing is restoring proper movement to joints that aren’t moving well. Think of it like a rusty door hinge that needs oil. We’re helping that joint move the way it’s supposed to.

Here’s a big myth I want to bust… people think once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to go forever. That’s just not true. Some people feel better after a few visits and they’re done. Others choose to come in regularly because they like how they feel and they want to stay that way. It’s really up to you and what your goals are.

Another thing… chiropractic isn’t just for back pain. Sure, we see a lot of that, but we also help with neck pain, headaches, shoulder problems, hip issues… basically anything related to how your body moves and functions. I’ve had patients come in for knee pain or elbow pain and they’re surprised we can help with that. But it all connects.

And here’s something important. We don’t claim to cure diseases. Good chiropractors work within their scope. We’re not treating diabetes or high blood pressure. What we do is help your body function better mechanically. When your spine is healthy and moving well, your nervous system can do its job more efficiently.

So what can you do right now? Pay attention to how you’re sitting, standing, and moving throughout your day. Notice if you’re slouching or always looking down at your phone. Small changes in your daily habits can make a big difference.

If you’re dealing with pain that’s not going away, or if you just want to move better and feel better, come see us. We’ll do a thorough evaluation, figure out what’s going on, and create a plan that makes sense for you. No pressure, no lifetime contracts… just honest care.
