Hey there, welcome back. I’m Doctor Nicholas Esser, and you’re listening to the six one four chiropractic podcast, coming to you from right here in Hilliard, Ohio. I’m really glad you carved out a few minutes today, because we’re going to talk about something that I genuinely believe can change the way you feel on a daily basis. And the best part? It doesn’t require a gym membership, a fancy piece of equipment, or even a lot of time. We’re talking about small, daily movements — and how they can actually protect you from chronic pain down the road.

Now, here’s the thing. When most people think about preventing pain, they think they need to do something dramatic. Like, start training for a marathon, or completely overhaul their lifestyle overnight. And then when that feels overwhelming, they do nothing. I see this all the time. But the truth is, the human body doesn’t need dramatic. It needs consistent.

Your spine, your joints, your muscles — they were designed to move. Every single day. Not just on weekends, not just when you feel like it. Movement is literally what keeps your body healthy and functioning. When we sit still for long periods of time — and a lot of us are doing that more than ever — the soft tissues around your joints start to stiffen up. Blood flow decreases. The little discs in your spine don’t get the nutrition they need. And over time, that’s where chronic pain starts to develop. Not from one big injury. But from a long, slow pattern of not enough movement.

Here’s what’s interesting — research in movement science has shown that even short bouts of gentle movement throughout the day can make a meaningful difference. We’re talking about things like standing up from your desk every thirty to forty five minutes. Taking a slow walk around your office or your living room. Rolling your shoulders back a few times. Gently turning your head side to side to release tension in your neck. These might sound almost too simple. But simple, done consistently, is powerful.

Let me break this down for you a little more. Think of your spine like a sponge. When you move, that sponge gets squeezed and releases, pulling in fresh fluid and nutrients. When you sit still for hours, that sponge just… sits there. Dry. Compressed. That’s when things start to ache. So even a minute or two of gentle movement — a few times throughout the day — is like giving that sponge a little refresh. You’re keeping everything hydrated, flexible, and resilient.

Now, here’s some practical advice you can start using today. First, set a reminder on your phone every hour to get up and move for just two minutes. Walk to the kitchen, do a few gentle stretches, whatever feels good. Second, pay attention to your posture — not in a rigid, tense way, but just check in with yourself. Are your shoulders creeping up toward your ears? Is your chin jutting forward? A gentle reset goes a long way. Third, consider adding a short morning movement routine. Even five minutes of slow, intentional movement when you wake up helps signal to your body that it’s time to function and flow.

You know what I hear a lot from patients? They say, “Doctor Esser, I didn’t even realize how stiff I had gotten until I started moving more.” That’s so common. We adapt to our discomfort without even noticing. But your body is always giving you signals — tightness, fatigue, that low-grade ache at the end of the day. Those are invitations to move more, not reasons to rest more.

Now, if you’re already dealing with persistent pain — neck pain, low back pain, headaches, joint stiffness — that’s a great reason to come in and get evaluated. Sometimes there’s an underlying issue with spinal alignment or joint function that’s making it harder for your body to respond to movement the way it should. That’s exactly what we’re here for at six one four chiropractic. We’ll take a look at what’s going on, figure out the root cause, and build a plan that supports your body’s ability to heal and move well.

So here’s your takeaway for today. You don’t have to do everything perfectly. You just have to do something. A little movement, every day, adds up to a lot of protection over time. Your future self will absolutely thank you.
